Dante's Inferno

Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez is in talks to direct Universal's live action adaptation of the Electronic Art's video game Dante's Inferno, Deadline has learned.

The 2010 video game re-imagines Dante, the protagonist of Dante Alighieri's 14th-century poem, as a knight who must transverse the Nine Circles of Hell to rescue his love from Satan's clutches.

Think of this as Clash of the Titans except with demonic creatures.

Bruce McKenna wrote the script, with a rewrite done by Jay Basu. No word on when production will begin, but with Alvarez onboard, he may want to make some changes to the script.

Video game movies are now viewed as the next big thing, so Dante's Inferno is actually a promotion for Alvarez, who made his feature debut with Evil Dead.
