'Evil Dead 2' Still in the Works, Alvarez Says
In somewhat of a shocker, Evil Dead co-writer Rodo Sayagues has revealed to Gorosito TV that he and director Fede Alvarez are off Evil Dead 2, and there's a possibility that the sequel will never be made.
"Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved," Sayagues said. "We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don't know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project."
Why the sudden change? Sayagues didn't say, but with the revelation that Sam Raimi is working on Army of Darkness 2 and will be directing it, it is possible the producers may have second thoughts about having two parallel, but connected, storylines going on at the same time and have decided to put their focus on just one instead.
Of course, it's possible Evil Dead 2 may still happen, just not with Sayagues and Alvarez.
As for Sayagues, he has moved on to Machina, a movie about a teenager who is tangled up with a large corporation in Los Angeles. Judging from the title, this teenager may be a hacker.
Update: In response to the report, Alvarez wrote on Twitter, "[d]on't believe everything you read online..."
Bloody Disgusting was able to get Alvarez to clarify.
"Rodo meant we're not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam's Army of Darkness 2," Alvarez said. "But the plan of making a sequel to our Evil Dead is very much alive."
