Ethan Hawke Is Reportedly Now Playing Doctor Strange

Ethan Hawke

If This Is Famous is correct, Ethan Hawke, not Joaquin Phoenix, will be playing the titular character in Marvel's Doctor Strange. Hawke has reportedly accepted the role over the weekend and is now in contract talks. *Update* Deadline reports that Hawke getting the part is just pure speculation.

Back in August, Phoenix was in "final talks" to play the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, but soon after, reports surfaced that he was having second thoughts about the commitment involved for these kind of movies. Without the lead actor for its 2016 movie, Marvel turned to Hawke.

Phoenix would make an awesome Sorcerer Supreme, but since he's not available, Marvel couldn't do any better than Hawke as he's a great actor and he looks the part.

Also, according to the above website, Doctor Strange will not be an origin story of the said doctor; it will jump right into whatever is going on in the MCU at the time.

Is there any truth to of all this? Stay tuned.
