EOB Weekend Box Office Podcast: 1/12/2014 - The Tak3n Train Keeps on Rolling

Here’s the latest podcast, where I pronounce every word with a "th" or a "t" in it as a "d." Still, Binh thinks this one is pretty good.
To the surprise of no one, “Tak3n” was the top film. I pegged it in the $35-$40M range, and it came in at the higher end of that. I saw it over the weekend, you can hear my comments in the podcast.
Binh and I noted how Liam Neeson essentially made Jason Statham films mainstream.
“The Imitation Game” pulls in another $7M, upping its total to $40M.
“The Interview” took in $16M online last week, upping its total VOD revenue to a record $31M. In theaters, it has only grossed a weak $6M. We discussed, overall, whether or not this is a success.
China’s box office grewed another 36% in 2014, putting its its total to nearly $5B, which is about half of the US’s, but by far, the second largest film market in the world. We discussed how this is affecting Hollywood productions.
With four films opening wide this long MLK weekend -- “American Sniper,” “Paddington,” “The Wedding Ringer,” and “Blackhat” -- we wonder which of these will be overlooked.
Binh thinks this is a good one, so check it out:
