Elizabeth Banks Directing 'Pitch Perfect 2'

Elizabeth Banks

Universal must have saw something in the segment Elizabeth Banks directed in the ill-received comedy Movie 43 because the studio has tapped her to direct the Pitch Perfect sequel.

"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," Universal Picture chairman Donna Langley said. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2."

Kay Cannon, who wrote the first movie, is also returning to write the sequel.

Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick as Beca Mitchell, a college freshman who leads an a cappella group called the Bellas to a national championship. Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are expected to return.

The first movie cost a reported $17 million to make, and it grossed over $113 million at the global box office.
