Ed Helms Confirmed for New 'Vacation' Movie

After paying its dues in development hell, it looks like New Line's next-gen Vacation update is on track for a 2013 shoot, with Ed Helms officially on board to star as Clark Griswold's grown-up son Rusty.
Writer/directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein opened up to Collider about current developments with the project, which include plans to bring the production to Atlanta and New Mexico in June. Goldstein described the idea behind the movie by saying, "Rusty Griswold is grown-up, and that’s Ed Helms."
Not the most in-depth plot summary, but hey, we appreciate the lack of spoilers. One way or another, it sounds like it'll be quite an adventure for Daley and Goldstein -- as Goldstein put it, "We’re casting the other parts now and it’s pretty exciting. I mean we’ve been directing shorts together, but this is our first feature. When we wrote the script we didn’t know we’d be directing it and then New Line said, 'Do you wanna pitch yourselves to direct it?' And we were like 'You bet!'"
To which Daley quipped, "And then we looked at the script and it was like, 'who wrote this piece of shit?'"
As for whether we can expect to see some of the more familiar members of the Griswold clan, Daley admitted that's the plan, with Goldstein adding that they're "in the process of having those conversations." Fingers crossed that New Line has enough in the budget to smuggle Randy Quaid across the Canadian border in a starwhacker-proof van!
