The big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video game series will be directed by Doug Liman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tom Hardy is producing and will headline the movie.

Hardy will play Sam Fisher, an operative in the secret government organization called Third Echelon. Fisher's job is to lead a group of high trained soldiers to combat terrorists around the world.

Splinter Cell is set up at New Regency, who plans to release the movie in 2015. The script is written by Eric Singer, and production is planned for this August.

Video game maker Ubisoft has ramped up its effort to develop some of its most popular video game properties into movies in the last couple of years.

Besides Splinter Cell, Ubisoft has Assassin's Creed in the pipeline, with Michael Fassbender attached to star as a bartender who can access the memories of his ancestors. That movie is also planned for release in 2015 as well.
