Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon Vant to Star in 'Dracula'

Dominic Cooper

Apparently, starring in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter wasn't enough for Dominic Cooper, because he's just signed on to join the cast of Universal's upcoming Dracula -- along with the suddenly-everywhere Sarah Gadon, who has added the project to her docket just days after being added to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It's a long-overdue flurry of activity for the studio's latest take on the vampire legend; although Gary Shore is already in the director's seat with Luke Evans also set to star, the project has been suspiciously quiet lately, especially given that it's aiming for an August 2014 release date.

Cooper and Gadon's signings add some necessary heft to the cast, although it's presently unknown which characters either of them will be playing. According to Universal, "the story is a mix of mythology and history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by Bram Stoker’s novel."

Aside from last year's Hotel Transylvania, Dracula has been mostly absent from the big screen of late; his most recent outing was 2004's Van Helsing, starring Hugh Jackman as the titular vampire hunter and Richard Roxburgh as his infamous quarry. The same year, Lionsgate released Dracula 3000, which sent the vampire into space; however badly this Dracula bungles the classic story, we have faith it'll manage to clear that bar.
