'The To Do List' Clip Extols the Virtues of Pineapple Juice

The To Do List

We've had plenty of solid R-rated comedies over the last 10 years, but even as funny as hits like Knocked Up or Superbad might be at their best, they still tend to represent a skewed, weirdly sanitized version of human sexuality -- and one that's oddly less honest, in some ways, than the picture offered by the (often rather lame) raunchy comedies of the '80s.

Enter Aubrey Plaza, the young comedian who has elevated eye-rolling to an art form with her role on Parks and Recreation -- and revealed hitherto hidden dramatic depths during her appearance in last year's indie dramedy Safety Not Guaranteed. In this summer's The To Do List, she's playing a recent high school graduate who's spent her adolescence in front of a book -- and she intends to make up for it by putting together a list of all the afterschool activities she's missed out on and checking them off, one by one, with willing suitors.

It sounds like the type of premise that, in the '80s, would have resulted in a lot of mindless T&A -- and in the hands of someone like Judd Apatow, might veer toward the misogynistic while editing out the naughty bits. But if this clip -- presented exclusively via MTV -- gives an accurate picture of what writer/director/Funny or Die vet Maggie Carey is up to, The To Do List could be the funniest, raunchiest, most honest teen sex movie we've had for 30 years. One thing's for sure -- MTV's editors had their hands full with these scenes, as you'll see from all the hard jump cuts. Pineapple juice, anyone?
