Disney's 'Planes' Sneak Peek

Planes

Planes, a Cars spin-off of sorts, was originally planned as a direct-to-video release, but apparently it's good enough for Disney to bring to the big screen. Check out a sneak peek below.

While Planes may look like a Pixar movie, it's not. It's actually produced by DisneyToon Studios, the direct-to-video arm of Disney. However, John Lasseter is one of the producers, and the movie is directed by animation vet Klay Hall, who has Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and the TV series King of the Hill, among others, on his resume.

Those providing the voices for the characters include Dane Cook, Stacy Keach, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Cedric the Entertainer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Carlos Alazraqui, Priyanka Chopra, Gabriel Iglesias, Roger Craig Smith, Colin Cowherd, Sinbad, Oliver Kalkofe, Brent Musburger, Anthony Edwards, and Val Kilmer.

Here's the synopsis:

From above the world of "Cars" comes "Disney's Planes," an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty's not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty's courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.

Planes is coming to theaters on August 9, 2013. Check out pics of some of the characters here.
