Damon Lindelof Won't Return to Write 'Prometheus 2'

Prometheus

Despite some polarizing reviews, Prometheus did over $400 million at the global box office, well enough that Fox wants rush out a sequel for a 2014 or 2015 release.

Ridley Scott, unless he changes his mind, will return to direct, but screenwriter/producer Damon Lindelof is definitely out.

In an interview with Collider, Lindelof confirms that he's not returning to write the sequel to Prometheus. Why? The short answer is he's busy with other things.

"I can only be working on one thing at a time. So I said to [Ridley Scott], 'I really don't think I could start working on this movie until I do this other stuff. And I don't know when the other stuff is going to be done,'" Lindelof said.

Still, even before Prometheus was released in theaters, Damon Lindelof hinted that he might not return to work on the sequel should it happen.

"Right now my focus is doing this movie for Disney, and then I obviously want to do another television show ... I do feel like the movie might benefit from a fresh voice or a fresh take or a fresh thought. Sometimes the baton should be passed, if that's what the story demands. I had [Prometheus] for the period of time that I was running the race, and if that story continues, it could actually benefit going into someone else's able hand," Lindelof told The Hollywood Reporter back in June.

Scott has recently completed principal photography for the Cormac McCarthy-scripted thriller The Counselor. Once he's done with that he may move on Prometheus 2 or that Blade Runner movie he'd signed up for. However, if neither of those movies are ready by the time Scott is done with his obligations for The Counselor, he may decide to work on something else.

Should the Prometheus sequel happen, expect Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace to return to reprise their roles as they have already signed on.
