'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Has One Doozy of a Trailer

Cap 2

Before Marvel started rolling film on its Captain America film franchise, there was a lot of conjecture about what the studio could do to make an old goody-two-shoes like the Captain relevant for modern moviegoers -- a question they promptly solved by turning Captain America: The First Avenger into a World War II adventure flick that paid homage to the Saturday serial classics while setting up the character's move into the present.

With the billion-dollar Avengers serving as Cap's bridge into the 21st century, directors Anthony and Joe Russo were free to bring him completely into the modern age with the First Avenger sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier -- and from the looks of this first trailer, they've done just that, in more ways than one.

We won't give too much away here -- the trailer doesn't -- but it's obvious from this 2:27 clip that Winter Soldier not only highlights Cap's confusion in the modern world, it makes a point of illustrating just how much our approach to combat -- and America's relationship to the world at large -- has changed over the last several decades. Cold War kids should be able to relate to Cap's anger in this clip, and although it would probably be unreasonable to expect Winter Soldier to serve as an in-depth exploration of 21st century politics and the U.S. military-industrial complex, this trailer suggests it might come pretty close. Oh, and also, the Falcon looks pretty doggone cool.

Check it out below. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 4, 2014.
