Bradley Cooper Is Steven Spielberg's 'American Sniper'

Bradley Cooper

After all that back and forth over when and how he was going to film Robopocalypse, Steven Spielberg eventually ended up going in a different direction entirely: His next project will reportedly be an adaptation of the bestselling book American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.

If you read that and thought, "Huh -- that's an intriguing-sounding movie," you agree with Bradley Cooper, who's set to star and co-produce alongside Spielberg, who will be directing from a script by Jason Hall. According to Variety, the project will be a co-production between DreamWorks and Warner Bros.

Spielberg's attachment may come as something of a shock, especially to fans who've been holding out hope that he'd get around to Robopocalypse sooner than later, but Cooper's been developing Sniper for some time; he actually optioned the rights to the book through his production company, 22nd & Indiana Pictures, in 2012.

This will be Spielberg's second biopic in a row following Lincoln, and the genre clearly agrees with him; as Variety notes, a movie about the lives of George and Ira Gershwin is also among his potential upcoming projects.
