Box Office Showdown: The Results for Nov. 11-13

Posted 7:03 PM November 14th, 2011 by Binh Ngo

According to the predictions, Immortals was supposed to come in either second or third at the box office, but it proved the naysayers wrong by coming in number one and made $8 million over the most optimistic prediction with a take of $32.2 million.

Adam Sandler's new comedy Jack and Jill came in second at $25 million. Exhibitor Relations was the only prognosticator who picked the movie to finish at this spot and with the correct amount to boot. The others either had it coming in first or third.

As for Puss in Boots, all the guesses were for it to come in either first or second, but it ended up finishing third behind Immortals and Jack and Jill with a respectable $24.7 million in its third weekend. Puss in Boots has now passed the $100 million mark in the US.

The battle for the fourth and fifth spot was expected to be close between Tower Heist and J. Edgar, and it was. However, Tower Heist managed to earn $1.6 million more than J. Edgar to claim the fourth spot with a take of $12.8 million.

Next week, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and Happy Feet Two will hit theaters. Undoubtedly, these two new entrants will claim the first and second spot at the box office, but who ends up where? Come back Thursday and let's read the tea leaves together.
