Box Office Podcast: "Revenant" and "Star Wars" Are Discussed; "Kung Fu Panda 3" Predictions Are Made

Kung Fu Panda 3

Binh just put up our new podcast last night for last weekend’s box office results.

There’s not much more that we can say about “The Revenant” or “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Sure, these two films supplanted the previous weekend’s top film “Ride Along 2,” which experienced a typical 60%-plus drop-off for a film targeted at the African-American audience.

Binh and I debate whether or not Lionsgate made any money from the low numbers for “Norm of the North,” another low-budget animated release from the studio. They were able to generate a decent profit from “Shaun the Sheep Movie” despite the film grossing just $19M in the U.S.

Of course, we also discussed the modest successes of “The Boy” and “Ip Man 3.” We give our opinions on how Donnie Yen was eventually able to get out of the long shadows of Jackie Chan and Jet Li in the last decade.

We give our predictions for this week’s wide releases, including “Kung Fu Panda 3.” I’m going low, and he’s going high. Listen to the podcast for our numbers.
