"The Bourne Legacy" Jumps into Fresh Territory on Rotten Tomatoes

Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton Face Off in "The Bourne Legacy"

Earlier in the week, “The Bourne Legacy” debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with 50% on the Tomatometer after six reviews. Its Facebook rankings tanked for a couple of days afterwards.

Today, it jumped into the Fresh territory with 61% after 45 reviews. It’s borderline Fresh, so let’s see if it can stay in that area in the next couple of days. Its daily Facebook ranking jumped from 173rd all the way to 9th place, adding about 9,638 “likes.”

It sounds like a tense, taut thriller that’s not as well plotted or crafted, but is, nonetheless, an entertaining summer popcorn movie. As a comparison, the first two Bourne films scored in the low 80s, and the third one is the crown jewel of the series with a near perfect 94%, one of the best-reviewed films of 2007.

“The Bourne Legacy” opens this Friday. A reboot of the Jason Bourne franchise starring Matt Damon, It’s the first star vehicle for Jeremy Renner, who plays another field agent from one of the CIA’s black ops programs. Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz join him for the adventure.

Tony Gilroy, the screenwriter of the first three Bourne films, replaces Paul Greengrass for directing duties.
