The Jungle Book

Ben Kingsley is joining the voice cast of Disney's The Jungle Book as the black panther Bagheera, the studio has announced. The movie is a live-action/CGI adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's book of the same name.

In the book, Bagheera helps to pave the way for the human boy Mowgli's adoption into a wolf pack and also mentors and protects the boy as he grows up.

Idris Elba is voicing the tiger Shere Khan, with Lupita Nyong'o as the wolf mother Rakcha and Scarlett Johansson as the python Kaa. Who's playing Mowgli has not been revealed.

Jon Favreau is directing from a script by Justin Marks and the movie will arrive in theaters on October 9, 2015.

Warner Bros. is also working on its own adaptation of The Jungle Book, with Andy Serkis directing. At this point, Disney's version is farther along.
