'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Moves to March 2016

DoJ

We've been wondering for weeks whether Warner Bros. and Marvel were truly serious about pitting Captain America 3 against the Man of Steel sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on May 6, 2016, and now we have our answer: The two films won't go head-to-head after all, and Warners was the studio that blinked first.

Dawn of Justice has been pulled up in the schedule, where it's now slated to arrive in theaters on March 25, 2016. It's a demonstration of Marvel's position of strength in the marketplace, but the news isn't all bad for Warners; while announcing Justice's move, they also staked a claim on eight more release dates through 2020, making it clear that they intend to establish a superhero film universe just as crowded as Marvel's.

The updated schedule calls for Warners to release two DC-adapted titles a year, matching Marvel's own two-a-year pace -- and that doesn't even take into account the shared superhero universes being developed at Sony and Fox, where the Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four licenses currently reside.

It all adds up to a whole heck of a lot of costumed action at the box office -- and if Dawn of Justice's March release is any indication, it'll bring with it even more of the blockbuster creep that has extended the studios' range for major releases far beyond the summer months. Brace yourselves for capes and costumes all year round.
