Based on Matinee Figures, "The Avengers" Will Make $65M-$67M on Friday

The Avengers: Thor and Captain America

Deadline’s reporting that “The Avengers” will make between $65M-67M on Friday based on early matinee figures. This total includes Thursday’s midnight take of $18.7M.

For single day box office, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” holds the record with $91M. There’s no way “The Avengers” will get anywhere close to that.

The “Twilight” sequels occupy the second through fourth spots with between $68M-$72M.

In fifth and sixth are “The Hunger Games” and “The Dark Knight,” each with $67M.

It looks like “The Avengers” will probably end up behind them at the sixth spot.

Deadline’s estimates based on matinees have always been on the lower end though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it makes a few more million and takes a spot from one of the “Twilight” films.

Still, like the midnight number, no records are broken. If it’s able to edge “The Dark Knight” out of the fifth spot, then like BoxOfficeMojo, you can say that it’s the best single day record for a superhero movie.

Even if no records are smashed, Disney and Marvel should be ecstatic over the $65M-$67M single day haul. Any studio would be.

I’m watching it in a couple hours - in 2D. Can’t wait.
