'Bad Boys 3' Is Happening, Says Martin Lawrence

Bad Boys

Nearly 20 years after the first installment and more than a decade after the first sequel, it looks like the long-discussed Bad Boys 3 is finally grinding into gear -- at least if we can take franchise co-star Martin Lawrence at his word.

During an appearance on Conan August 13, Lawrence was asked about the possibility of another Bad Boys sequel, and he didn't mince words. "I believe so, yes," he nodded. "I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it’s real; they’re working on the script, they’re getting close, and it all looks good."

What that means in terms of a timetable is anyone's guess; clearly, this is a franchise that takes its time with follow-ups. But Bruckheimer's been trying to get a script off the ground since last year, and with the 20th anniversary of Bad Boys looming on the calendar for 2015, perhaps the third chapter in the action thriller saga is closer than anyone suspected.

And perhaps we might see a certain ginger-maned late-night host in the final product, too. As Lawrence told O'Brien: "I will mention to Will Smith and Jerry Bruckheimer that Conan wants a cameo in the movie."
