Arnold Schwarzenegger Adds to His Quip Collection in New Trailer for 'The Last Stand'

The Last Stand

What's more meaningful at this stage of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career: His name above the title, or a January 18 release date? The new trailer for The Last Stand offers some clues.

As with pretty much any Schwarzenegger project, you're going to have to suspend a fairly heavy load of disbelief right off the bat -- in this case, thanks to a storyline that makes him the pleasantly gruff, overwhelmingly Teutonic sheriff of a Southwestern border town that just happens to be the (ahem) last stand between justice and an escaped druglord who's racing through the desert toward Mexico in a souped-up 'Vette.

It's the kind of premise that would have been played for some deadly serious thrills in the '80s, with a smattering of hopeful future catchphrases in the dialogue -- but if The Last Stand's trailer is anything to go by, this movie is one confused mishmash of insane set pieces, slumming character actors (why hello, Luis Guzman), and "I'm getting too old for this" gags lifted from leftover Lethal Weapon scripts.

It's very much a January movie, in other words -- but one with a pronounced (albeit apparently wildly uneven) sense of humor and a crack cast. Adjust your expectations accordingly:
