'Annabelle' Debuts First Full-Length Trailer

Annabelle

In awful news for anyone still plagued by memories of that poor kid being terrorized by his freaky clown doll in the first Poltergeist movie -- or anyone who remembers when the Child's Play series was still vaguely scary -- toy-based horror is set to take another chilling lurch forward with Annabelle this October, and the first trailer is here to prove it.

Pitched as an allegedly fact-based spinoff from last year's The Conjuring, Annabelle purports to tell the origin story behind the infamous titular doll who is said to have wreaked supernatural havoc on her owners before being brought to paranormal justice by Ed and Lorraine Warren, the professional mediums depicted in The Conjuring. Annabelle makes an appearance in The Conjuring, but she's mainly there to provide ghoulish window dressing and set up the Warrens' story; here, she's free to run rampant on her own (and presumably to set up a brand new franchise in the process).

So how scary can a doll really be, anyway? Check out the trailer below and judge for yourself. Annabelle is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 3.
