'Angry Birds' Announces Voice Cast

If there were any doubt that Sony's pursuing a comedic angle with its upcoming animated adaptation of Rovio's wildly popular Angry Birds game, today's announcement that the voice cast has been thoroughly stocked with comedy stars should put it safely to rest. Led by Saturday Night Live vet Jason Sudeikis and co-starring a number of his former co-stars, including Maya Rudolph and Bill Hader, the production certainly seems like it's after the laugh factor.
Sudeikis will play the leader of the birds' flock, named Red, alongside Josh Gad (Frozen) as Chuck, Danny McBride as Bomb, Bill Hader as a pig, Maya Rudolph as Matilda, and Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle.
The news, which also includes the announcement of a supporting cast that boasts Kate McKinnon, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, and Hannibal Buress, was first revealed to Angry Birds players via the game's app, which Sony marketing president Dwight Caines referred to as "an unlock" for avid fans and promised, "Our filmmakers are cooking up a hilarious movie, and we know these fans can’t wait to see how they’re going to bring the Angry Birds’ story to life on the big screen of movie theaters."
"I’m extremely proud of this cast,” enthused producer John Cohen in a statement. “Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent — these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board."
