Alfonso Cuaron to Direct Harry Potter Spin-Off 'Fantastic Beasts'?

While J.K. Rowling is busy adapting her own Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, into three "megamovies," with the first one dated for November 18, 2016, Warner Bros. has apparently zeroed in on a director.
Nikki Finke has heard that Alfonso Cuaron is "deep in talks" with the studio to direct the first, if not all three, of the Fantastic Beasts movies, which is something Cuaron would like to do when Vulture spoke to him last year.
"Akzaban was fun to make, and when I did it, I was invited to do the next one, but I didn't want to overstay the welcome, because it was such an experience," Cuaron said. "But now? Why not? I do have stuff that I want to do [next], but a J.K. thing ... They haven't called me yet! They haven't decided to invite me! Looking forward! At least to see it, because nobody's invited me."
From your lips to WB's ears, Alfonso!
Cuaron just came off of his award-winning film Gravity, and, as far as we know, he hasn't decide on his next movie yet, so a return to the Harry Potter universe may be in the cards for him. The only sticking point may be Rowling herself. Will Cuaron have permission from her to change the script as he sees fit?
