Adam Driver Rumored for 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Villain Role

Adam Driver

We've been playing it cool with the near-constant rumors regarding Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one seems legit: It looks like the next villain to torment the Rebels and their friends will be played by none other than Girls cast member Adam Driver.

Variety reports that Driver has been in talks with Disney for some time, but adds that his Girls gig has snagged progress by creating a potential scheduling snafu between subsequent seasons of the show and future sequels. That's apparently all cleared up now, and although he hasn't signed a deal, one "should be finalized in the coming days" for Driver to play a villain "in the vein of" Darth Vader.

The deal comes after director J.J. Abrams and consultant Lawrence Kasdan took over the screenwriting reins for the sequel, enabling the completion of a script that Abrams and the studio could be happy with and clearing the way for casting contracts. Driver should be only the first in a series of names we'll be hearing more about in the days and weeks to come.
