3D 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Revenge of the Sith' Coming at You Next Year

Attack of the Clones

I had forgotten that the 3D version of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace was released back in February and I'm probably not the only one.

The 3D re-release didn't make much of a splash at the box office with its $44 million domestic take, just a tenth of what the movie made when it was released back in 1999.

Since the 3D conversion and the marketing of the movie shouldn't have cost Fox more than $35 million, it is still profitable – which is important because that allows the studio to proceed on the next two movies.

Today, we learned the 3D versions of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are coming to theaters next year on September 20 and October 11, respectively.

With the two movies released within a couple of weeks from each other, Fox probably didn't have any delusions that the movies will have any longevity at the box office. I guess the $44 million box office of The Phantom Menace helped tempered the studio's expectations.

Attack of the Clones will be going up against Ron Howard's racing drama, Rush, in that September slot, and Revenge of the Sith is the only movie in that October slot so far.
