25 Years Later, Still No Sequel to 'The Princess Bride'

The Princess Bride

If you're one of those holding out hope for a sequel to The Princess Bride, you're in for a long wait, perhaps forever.

William Goldman, the author of the novel the movie is based on and the screenwriter of movie, is 81 years old. He has been trying to crack the sequel nut for awhile now, and he's nowhere close.

“I’m desperate to make it and write it and I don’t know how. I would love to make it, more than anything else I’ve not written,” Goldman told the LA Times.

Have I mentioned that Goldman is 81 years old?

So, let's resign ourselves to the fact that a followup to The Princess Bride, either for the book or the movie, won't likely happen within Goldman's lifetime.

A more likely scenario is that the movie will be remade with a younger cast, and if that's successful, then we'll see the sequel.

The 25th anniversary Blu-ray edition of the movie is out this week, and it comes with a couple of new features not found in the previous release, like interviews with the filmmakers on why the movie endured for so many years, etc.
