'12 Years a Slave's Lupita Nyong'o Heading to 'Star Wars: Episode VII'?

Lupita Nyong-o

Lupita Nyong'o struck gold in her feature debut by winning the Best Supporting Oscar for her role in 12 Years a Slave, but her profile will shoot into the stratosphere if she is to nab one of the female leads in Star Wars: Episode VII.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyong'o has met with J.J. Abrams about a role in Episode VII just before the Academy Awards. The report didn't say how the meeting went, but she must have made an impression because Latino Review is saying that she's "extremely close" to signing.

It's not clear what her role is, but it has been speculated that it may be that of a villain or a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. In other words, no one really knows.

Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and a couple of cast members from the old Star Wars movies are expected to return for Episode VII, but the story is now focused on the younger generation and not on them. Adam Driver is playing one of the villains.

Schedule for release on December 18, 2015, Episode VII will begin shooting (on 35mm film!) from May through September.
